NO TO PASCUA LAMA, STOP THE PILLAGING AND DESTRUCTION OF OUR NATURAL RESOURCES, CULTURE AND TRADITIONS!

The day June 2th of this year in Vallenar, valley of the Huasco, “Junta Valeriano” and “El Corral” communities (neighbors to the Pascua Lama project), social, environmental, artistic, farmers, student, indigenous and religious organizations from different points met to manifest against the installation of the Barrick Gold company (with Canadian and USA capitals) in Pascua Lama. At the Talca bridge in Vallenar the march-parade began in which the main streets of Vallenar were traveled to claim for the violation to the nature and human being that the mining project Pascua Lama represents under the pathetic government's obliging attitude. In those two hours of march participated around 2000 people.

Followed diverse representatives of the summoned organizations showed their unanimous rejection to the polluting mining project. For their realization of the mining extractions Barrick needs to consume so much water that it would even exceed the hydric capacity of the valley, meaning the end of the life in this area!. Have our ex-president (Ricardo Lagos Escobar), now in an important international ecological commission, said anything about this catastrophe coming?

Paradoxically in the media no attention was paid, and everything happened ignored completely, while few days after the president (of the riches) manifested her concern and commitment to fix the contamination problem in the country without mentioning the bigger contamination project approved by the government: Pascua Lama and while in the South of Chile the contamination due to oil spill and the one carried out by the Celco papermills continues unpunished. Just as Pinochet dictatorship was marked by the violations to the Human Rights and the Economic looting of the country, the technocracies that have continued will be remembered by the continuation of the outline of the dictatorship in the economic pattern and the quick pillaging and contamination of the natural resources for exclusive benefit of the transnational corporations. That’s how the “programs” goes.
